Esclans Rock Angel Rosé is crafted with meticulous care at Château d’Esclans, located in the heart of Côtes de Provence. The journey begins with early morning harvesting to ensure the grapes are picked at their peak ripeness while avoiding unnecessary colour and tannin extraction. This careful timing helps preserve the vibrant fruit characteristics that define this exceptional rosé.
Once harvested, the grapes undergo eye sorting using advanced technology to select the best berries. This process involves a vibrating table with an electronic eye that meticulously sorts the grapes, ensuring only the highest quality fruit is used. The grapes are then crushed and chilled through a heat exchanger to prevent oxidation and maintain their fresh, vibrant flavours.
The pressing process is conducted in intervals, gradually increasing pressure to extract the juice without compromising quality 1. This method results in a rosé with pure, intense, and vibrant fruit characteristics. The juice is then fermented in both stainless steel tanks and French oak demi-muids (600-liter barrels), allowing for a balanced integration of flavours.
The final step is assemblage, where different expressions of the rosé are blended based on grape varietal, vine age, soil type, and fermentation method. This blending process is similar to that used in Champagne production and enables the winemakers to create a rosé with great finesse and complexity.
The result is a wine that is both complex and refined, offering a delightful tasting experience. Grenache / Garnacha
Deliciously, round, fruity and heartwarming, grenache can be truly majestic when done well. Its likeability comes largely from its full body and sensation of sweetness which comes from its high levels of alcohol and glycerol. Expect plump, red fruits, black cherry, baking spice flavours and a hit of white pepper, developing into jammier, stewed fruit flavours in hotter regions.
Esclans Rock Angel Rosé has received several prestigious awards, highlighting its exceptional quality. Notably, it was awarded a Gold medal at the Drinks Business Global Rosé Masters 2022. This competition is highly regarded, judged by a panel of wine experts including Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers. The 2020 vintage of Rock Angel Rosé was particularly celebrated for its delicate peach stone and redcurrant aromatics, with a hint of creamy vanilla-bean wood, making it a standout in the oaked dry rosé category
