The Alsace Zellenberg Marc Tempe Pinot Gris 2013 from Alsace is known for its elegant and refined profile.

Appearance: Pale yellow with a hint of green.

Nose: Aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits, and a touch of minerality.

Palate: Fresh and vibrant with flavours of green apple, pear, and a subtle hint of honey. The wine has a good balance of acidity and a smooth, lingering finish.

The Alsace Zellenberg Marc Tempe Pinot Gris 2013  is a notable wine from the Alsace region, crafted with meticulous care.

Vine Age: The vines used for this wine average around 45 years old

Production: Marc Tempé employs traditional methods, aging the wine in old oak foundress, which is relatively rare for Pinot Blanc. This slow and careful process helps retain the wine’s aromatic complexity and texture

Yield: The yields are kept low, averaging around 30 hectolitres per hectare, which is less than half of the regional average

These practices contribute to the wine’s refined character and ability to age gracefully

Domaine Marc Tempé, nestled in the picturesque village of Zellenberg in Alsace’s Haut-Rhin region, has a rich history rooted in tradition and innovation. Founded in 1993 by Marc and Anne-Marie Tempé, the domaine was born from their shared passion for winemaking and their family’s vineyard holdings. Marc, who began his journey as a lab technician for the INAO (the body governing France’s appellation system), transitioned to working outdoors as a vineyard expert, selecting lieux-dits for Alsace’s Grand Cru system.

The domaine spans nearly 20 acres of hillside vineyards, where Marc and Anne-Marie practice biodynamic farming, a method that emphasizes harmony with nature and sustainable practices. Their commitment to quality is evident in their meticulous approach to viticulture and winemaking: the vines are pruned severely for low yields, harvested by hand, and pressed slowly to retain acidity. The wines are aged in old foudres or Burgundy barrels, and fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts

Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is a white grape variety resulting from a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir and belongs to the group of the so-called “international” varieties, of French origin, but widely cultivated around the world.

In Italy, the grape is widely cultivated in the north east of the country, with mainly mass production with exceptions in Veneto, and if the latter is the most important region for the grape in terms of quantity, the best Pinot grigio wines are made from grape grown in Friuli Venezia Giulia, especially the Collio area, and Trentino Alto Adige, where it produces great wines, with elegance and structure.

The Country

French wine, steeped in history and tradition, offers a rich tapestry of flavors and styles. Bordeaux’s iconic red blends—Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot—create wines with structured tannins and notes of blackcurrant, plum, and cedar. Burgundy’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay yield velvety reds and crisp whites. Champagne sparkles with toasty brioche and citrus. The Rhône Valley boasts bold Syrah, while Alsace’s Riesling and Gewürztraminer express floral aromas. From Provence’s pale rosés to Corsica’s sun-kissed Vermentino, each bottle tells a story. Santé!

The Region

Alsace, a picturesque wine region in northeastern France, is renowned for its diverse and flavorful wines such as

  • Riesling: World-class and aromatic, Alsace Riesling offers a dry, crisp taste with vibrant fruit flavors.
  • Gewurztraminer: Known for its rose-petal scent and full-bodied character, Gewurztraminer is rich and aromatic.
  • Pinot Blanc: Delicate and refreshing, Pinot Blanc is a versatile option.
