The production and aging of Arthur Metz Pinot Gris are steeped in the rich winemaking tradition of Alsace. Established in 1904, Arthur Metz has become a cornerstone of the region, drawing from a vast 1050 hectares of vineyards to select the best terroirs for their varietals. The winery oversees the entire process, from vineyard management to vinification, ensuring that each bottle reflects the quality and character of Alsace wines.

The vinification centers, located at the Vendangeoir de Scharrachbergheim and Epfig, are where the magic begins. Here, the grapes undergo static cold settling before the alcoholic fermentation, which is meticulously carried out at 18°C. This precise temperature control is crucial for preserving the delicate aromas and flavors inherent in the Pinot Gris grapes.

After fermentation, the wine is matured on fine lees for three months. This aging process, although relatively short, is essential for enhancing the wine’s complexity and texture. It allows the wine to develop a richer body and a more nuanced flavor profile, with the lees contributing a subtle creaminess and depth.

Arthur Metz’s commitment to quality extends to the bottling of the wine, ensuring that each step, from grape to glass, is handled with care and expertise. The result is a Pinot Gris that is not only expressive of its Alsatian roots but also of the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into its creation

The Maison Arthur Metz is ideally located at the start of the picturesque wine circuit in Alsace, which is the central road through the Alsace vineyards.

Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is a white grape variety resulting from a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir and belongs to the group of the so-called “international” varieties, of French origin, but widely cultivated around the world.

In Italy, the grape is widely cultivated in the north east of the country, with mainly mass production with exceptions in Veneto, and if the latter is the most important region for the grape in terms of quantity, the best Pinot grigio wines are made from grape grown in Friuli Venezia Giulia, especially the Collio area, and Trentino Alto Adige, where it produces great wines, with elegance and structure.
