Cotes du Rhone Village Domaine Clavel with grapes such as Carignan, Grenache and Shiraz – Fresh red fruits, floral and liquorice notes. Light-hearted, with an alluring freshness of fruit, this crunchy, slender, balanced and very southern red perfectly embodies the Côtes-du-Rhône spirit.
The Cotes du Rhone Village Domaine Clavel is a red wine that truly embodies the spirit of its region. This wine opens with an inviting aroma of fragrant rose petals and lavender, which provide an intoxicating introduction to its complexity. As you delve deeper, you’ll notice hints of red cherry and plum, adding a fruity depth to the bouquet.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with medium (+) acidity and tannins, creating a balanced and harmonious experience. The flavors are dominated by luscious red cherry and plum, which are complemented by notes of dark raspberry, blackberry, and pomegranate. This blend of fruits is skillfully balanced by fresh acidity, ensuring a lively and refreshing taste.
The finish of the Domaine Clavel Côtes du Rhône Village is notably short yet well-received, with a pleasant juiciness that lingers thanks to the acidity. This characteristic makes it a delightful wine to enjoy now, and it is expected to hold well through 2024.
The Cotes du Rhone Village Domaine Clavel is produced with meticulous care at the Domaine Clavel estate in Saint-Gervais, located in the Rhône Valley. The vineyard spans 80 hectares and is managed by Claire Clavel, who continues the family tradition of winemaking that dates back to 16401. The estate is committed to sustainable viticulture, following practices such as Terra Vitis and Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3) to ensure environmental responsibility and high-quality production.
The grapes are harvested and undergo fermentation at controlled temperatures to preserve their delicate flavors. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, which impart subtle notes of spice and enhance the wine’s complexity. This careful aging process allows the wine to develop its full potential, resulting in a well-balanced and flavorful final product
For several generations, the Clavels have run this estate, founded in 1934 on the right bank of the Rhône, whose vast area (80 ha) allows them to offer a wide range of wines. Today, it is Claire who has been at the helm of this organic estate since 2008. Very consistent in quality and best known for its Côtes-du-Rhône and its Saint-Gervais villages. Juicy, fruity and versatile Southern Rhone red from Claire Clavel whose vineyards lie in Saint Gervais, one of the ‘Villages’ of the Cotes du Rhone.
Carignan
Carignan is a somewhat confusing red wine grape variety. It was once the most widely planted grape in France, right up until the late 20th century when Merlot arrived on the big stage, yet many wine drinkers to this day remain very unfamiliar with it.
Carignan vines are highly productive yielding large quantities of fruit, which is why many winemakers use it, or have used it, in regions such as Languedoc, to make high volume lower quality wines and blends. Today, it is on somewhat of a mini revival, being produced and nurtured as a quality red wine in its own right, particularly in warmer climates of Spain and Italy, notably Sardinia.
Grenache / Garnacha
Deliciously, round, fruity and heartwarming, grenache can be truly majestic when done well. Its likeability comes largely from its full body and sensation of sweetness which comes from its high levels of alcohol and glycerol. Expect plump, red fruits, black cherry, baking spice flavours and a hit of white pepper, developing into jammier, stewed fruit flavours in hotter regions.
Shiraz
Syrah, or shiraz as it’s known in the New World, is considered to be one of the great noble black grape varieties, because it can produce such deliciously dark, full-bodied and age-worthy wines.
Expect rich, brooding flavours of blackberry, black plums and blackcurrant, with spicy, coffee, leathery and liquorice notes in hotter regions and gamey, truffle notes developing with a bit of age.

Burgundy’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay yield velvety reds and crisp whites. Champagne sparkles with toasty brioche and citrus. The Rhône Valley boasts bold Syrah, while Alsace’s Riesling and Gewürztraminer express floral aromas. From Provence’s pale rosés to Corsica’s sun-kissed Vermentino, each bottle tells a story. Santé!
