Chateau Patache d’Aux
Château Patache d’Aux is located in the Northern Médoc, 10 kilometres from the Gironde estuary. The property dates back to the mid-17th century, with the first harvest at the estate recorded to have taken place in 1720. The name Patache refers both to the maritime customs vessels that patrolled the Gironde estuary and the stagecoaches, depicted on the label, used to transport noblemen. Purchased by Antoine Moueix Propriétés in 2016, the estate has since undergone significant investment, including a transition to sustainable viticulture, the construction of a new cellar in 2017, and a new winemaking team supported by consultant winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt.
The move to sustainable viticulture, involving inter-row planting and ploughing of the vineyards, has resulted in a healthier soil structure and the development of deeper-rooted vines. The team believe this improves the complexity of the wine and also helps to ensure the vines have better protection during periods of extreme weather.
