Alto Adige
Alto Adige, also known as Südtirol, is one of Italy’s smallest and most interesting wine regions.
Alto Adige has been producing wine since ancient times, with evidence of vines dating back to 3000 BC. It was one of the first regions in Italy to produce red wine, and winemaking has continued ever since. Notably, Riesling, first made around 1600, is one of its famous wines.
The region’s terroir is complex, influenced by both Alpine and Mediterranean climates. The soil composition includes minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus. The terrain varies from plains to mountains, with vineyards at altitudes ranging from 500 to 1800 meters above sea level.
