Riesling Buntsandstein Trocken Pflüger 2023 inspires with the fine citrus notes on the nose, paired with hints of flint and peach. On the palate, wonderfully juicy and dense. For a long time, a balance between fullness, creaminess and acidity remains in the finish.

Very well made Riesling from a family owned winery in the region of Pfalz and 100% Biodynamically farmed. A strict method of farming that shows the vineyard as a all-encompassing living organism – creating High Quality, Low Intervention wine.

The Riesling Buntsandstein Trocken Pflüger 2023 is a biodynamic wine produced by Alex Pflüger’s estate in the Palatinate region. The 2023 vintage began with a challenging harvest due to a hot and humid summer, but the team managed to pick high-quality grapes by mid-October. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks, preserving its fresh and vibrant character. It showcases juicy peach and citrus fruit flavors, balanced by firm acidity and elegance.

Riesling is renowned for its exceptional aging potential. Over time, the wine’s primary fruity and floral notes evolve into more complex aromas and textures. With proper cellaring, the Riesling Buntsandstein Trocken can develop beautifully, gaining depth and richness while maintaining its characteristic freshness

Selection of Riesling plants in the Palatinate Mittelhaardt. All vineyards stand on the easily heated red sandstone soil typical of the Palatinate. This formation results in a very juicy, elegant Riesling type with a high drinking animation.

Weingut Pflüger, a family-run winery in Bad Dürkheim, boasts a rich history that stretches back to the 17th century. Originally a mixed agricultural enterprise, it began to specialize in viticulture around 1900. Under the visionary leadership of Bernd Pflüger, and now his son Alexander, the winery has embraced biodynamic farming since 2008. This commitment to ecological practices is a testament to their dedication to producing authentic wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Palatinate region.

The vineyards, spanning diverse soils from limestone to red sandstone, are cultivated with a focus on old values and biodiversity. Certified by Demeter and Ecovin, Weingut Pflüger’s wines are celebrated for their depth, complexity, and sustainable approach. Each bottle tells a story of the land, the climate, and the meticulous care taken to preserve the natural environment, making Weingut Pflüger a beacon of excellence in German winemaking

Riesling

Riesling is a white grape variety which originated in Germany and now has plantings in many other countries including Alsace, New Zealand and Australia. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying clean fruit and floral aromas, with green apple, and layered citrus flavours. It can make great varietally pure wines across the spectrum, from steely bone-dry examples to unctuous, sweet dessert wines. Its high acidity allows some examples to be extensively aged, where they can develop great complexity.

The Country

German wines are a symphony of flavors and history, offering a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Nestled along the picturesque river valleys of the Rhine and Moselle, Germany’s vineyards produce some of the world’s most elegant and aromatic wines. The star of the show is undoubtedly Riesling, celebrated for its versatility and ability to express the terroir with notes ranging from crisp green apple to luscious honeyed apricot. However, the rise of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) has added a new dimension, bringing rich, velvety reds to the forefront.

German wines are not just about taste; they are a journey through centuries of winemaking excellence, where each bottle tells a story of the land, the climate, and the passionate vintners who craft these exquisite beverages. Whether you prefer a dry, mineral-driven white or a sweet, dessert-like nectar, German wines offer a delightful experience for every palate.

The Region

The Pfalz wine region, nestled between the Rhine River and the Haardt Mountains, is a true gem in Germany’s viticultural crown. This region, also known as the Palatinate, boasts a rich history of winemaking that dates back to Roman times.

Stretching over 23,000 hectares, Pfalz is Germany’s second-largest wine-producing area, renowned for its diverse and high-quality wines. The climate here is one of the warmest and sunniest in Germany, allowing for the cultivation of a wide variety of grapes, including Riesling, which thrives with a richer and riper profile compared to other regions. The Pfalz is also celebrated for its robust reds, particularly Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), and innovative blends that reflect the region’s dynamic winemaking spirit
