The “Lighter” Innovation: Released as part of the brand’s expansion around 2022, this specific flavour was designed to target the “light and refreshing” market. While the original spiced rum is warm and vanilla-heavy, the Coconut & Lychee expression was created to offer a lower-calorie-feeling, “spritz-style” alternative that pairs better with lemonade or soda than with heavy colas.
No Added Sugar: Consistent with the Twin Fin ethos, this rum avoids the thick, sugary additives common in the coconut rum category (like Malibu). Twin Fin Rum is a modern, progressive rum brand produced by Southwestern Distillery, an independent, family-run distillery located on the wild coast of North Cornwall near Padstow. Launched in May 2020, the brand was created by Tarquin Leadbetter, the self-taught master distiller best known for founding the award-winning Tarquin’s Gin.
While Southwestern Distillery made its name in the gin world, Twin Fin represents Leadbetter’s ambitious entry into the rum category. The brand was born from a desire to create a “beach rum” that moved away from the heavy, pirate-themed tropes of traditional spiced rums, instead embracing a lighter, brighter, and more contemporary identity inspired by surf culture.
