Arber Arboretum Pink Gin balances a classic botanical backbone with a refreshing infusion of red summer fruits. Distilled from a base of nine traditional pot-stilled botanicals, it offers a lighter, fruit-forward experience without losing its core gin identity.

Aroma & Nose

The aroma opens with an inviting burst of sun-ripened red fruits, led by sweet garden strawberries and tangy, freshly crushed raspberries. Underneath the bright berry top notes, traditional gin aromatics remain firmly intact: piney juniper provides a crisp, resinous foundation, while a gentle lift of sweet lemon peel and orange zest adds brightness. Soft earthy undertones—hints of coriander and cassia spice—keep the bouquet grounded and sophisticated rather than overly sweet.

Palate & Mouthfeel

On the palate, the gin is light, crisp, and remarkably smooth, benefiting from an accessible 35% ABV profile. The initial sip delivers a natural blush of fruit sweetness, tasting of fresh strawberry compote and tart red berries. As the spirit rolls across the tongue, the core botanicals emerge to balance the initial sweetness. Evergreen juniper and citrus peel slice through the fruit forwardness, supplying necessary acidity and structure while maintaining a clean, velvety mouthfeel that avoids any cloying syrupiness.

Finish

The finish is clean, dry, and elegantly balanced. As the ripe berry sweetness recedes, subtle accents of liquorice root and earthy angelica provide a soft, gentle warmth on the back of the palate. It closes with a lingering trace of tart citrus oil and light pine, leaving the mouth feeling refreshed and crisp.

Arber Gin was created as a direct tribute to Agnes Arber (1879–1960), a pioneering British botanist and plant morphologist.

The Inspiration: Agnes Arber

  • Botanical Legacy: Arber spent her life studying plant anatomy and publishing extensive research on flowering plants.

  • Historical Firsts: In 1946, she became the first female botanist elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Two years later, in 1948, she became the first woman to receive the prestigious Gold Medal of the Linnean Society.

The Brand & Production

  • The Tribute: Signature Brands developed the line to honor her contributions to natural history, pairing botanical science with craft distilling.

  • Historic Distillation: The base gin is distilled at the historic Langley Distillery using “Jenny,” one of the oldest working copper gin stills in the United Kingdom.

  • Botanical Blend: The process begins with nine classic pot-stilled botanicals—including juniper, coriander, cassia, angelica, and citrus peel—before being infused with red fruits to create the Pink/Arboretum expression.

Agnes Arber Gin is named after the pioneering botanist Agnes Arber, who was the first woman botanist to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society. The brand was created to honor her legacy and contributions to the field of botany. The gin itself is distilled in one of the UK’s oldest working copper gin stills, known as Jenny, which adds a touch of historical charm to the production process.

The brand emphasizes a blend of traditional craftsmanship with a modern twist, using a unique combination of nine botanicals to create a distinctive flavor profile. This approach not only pays homage to Agnes Arber’s scientific achievements but also reflects a commitment to quality and innovation in gin-making.
