Silent Pool Gin

Silent Pool Gin (43% ABV) is a highly complex, contemporary London Dry gin that trades the rugged, “pine-heavy” profile of traditional gins for a more delicate, multi-layered experience. On the palate, it is exceptionally smooth, characterized by a creamy mouthfeel that comes from the addition of local Albury honey. The initial taste is a bright and refreshing burst of citrus—specifically kaffir lime and bergamot—which provides a more exotic, perfumed brightness than standard lemon or orange.

As the spirit develops, the floral heart takes center stage. Notes of lavender, chamomile, and elderflower weave together to create a “English garden” profile that feels sophisticated rather than soapy. This floral sweetness is expertly pinned down by a solid backbone of juniper and a hint of black pepper and cassia bark spice on the finish. Despite having 24 botanicals, the gin remains remarkably clear and balanced, with a lingering, slightly sweet warmth that makes it incredibly approachable even for those who usually find gin too “harsh.“

The story of Silent Pool is rooted in both modern craft and ancient English folklore.

  • The Location: The distillery is located on the Duke of Northumberland’s Albury Estate in the Surrey Hills, right next to the “Silent Pool”—a spring-fed lake known for its eerie, teal-colored waters.

  • The Legend: According to local myth, the pool is haunted by the ghost of a woodcutter’s daughter named Emma, who drowned there in the 13th century while escaping the unwanted advances of the villainous Prince John (the same one from the Robin Hood legends). The bottle’s intricate copper pattern actually hides illustrations of this legend within the design.

  • The Founding: Established in 2013 by friends Ian McCulloch and James Shelbourne, the distillery was built in a set of dilapidated farm buildings. They utilized a vintage wood-fired steam boiler to power their hand-built copper stills.
