Epanomi
Nestled on a sun-drenched peninsula near Thessaloniki in Northern Greece, Epanomi is a historic wine region blessed with a Mediterranean climate, moderated by cooling sea breezes from the Aegean. Its sandy, fossil-rich soils contribute to the distinctive character of its wines.
Epanomi’s modern reputation is largely built on the pioneering efforts of Domaine Gerovassiliou, founded in 1981. Evangelos Gerovassiliou famously rescued the aromatic Malagousia grape from obscurity, and this variety, alongside Assyrtiko, now produces some of Greece’s most compelling white wines here. The region also excels with indigenous reds like Limnio and Mavroudi, as well as international varieties such as Syrah, Chardonnay, and Viognier, all crafted with a focus on quality and expressing the unique coastal terroir.
