Furmint
Furmint is a white wine grape variety primarily grown in Hungary, particularly in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region. It is most famous for its role in producing the renowned Tokaji Aszú dessert wines, which are known for their sweetness and complexity. Furmint grapes are highly susceptible to noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which is essential for creating these luscious dessert wines.
In addition to sweet wines, Furmint is also used to produce dry wines that are often compared to Riesling due to their high acidity and potential for aging. These dry Furmint wines typically exhibit flavors of green apple, lemon, and ginger, with a distinctive minerality. The grape’s versatility allows it to create wines that range from light and crisp to rich and full-bodied
