Jules Gautret
The story of Gautret Family begins in the maritime region of Saintonge in 1780 and proceeds to the time when the family became the owners of beautiful Château de Jonzac in 1818. In 1847, the “Eaux de Vie” wine business was founded by Jules Gautret and the wine production of this estate was born. In the beginning, Gautret built new cellars and constructed the distillery and started selling the Cognac, as well as the creation of their winerys exclusive brand, “Château de Jonzac”.
In the following years, Château de Jonzac started to export to northern European markets, particularly Norway as well as key Latin American markets, mainly Mexico. In early 1895, Jules Gautret was awarded a gold medal at the famous Bordeaux Universal Exhibition for the excellent production of Château de Jonzac Euax de Vie.
