Valle Central
Valle Central, or Central Valley, is the powerhouse of Chilean wine production. Stretching from the Maipo Valley just south of Santiago to the southern end of the Maule Valley, this vast expanse is the engine room of the country’s wine industry. The region is characterized by a varied climate, with a Mediterranean influence that is ideal for a wide range of grape varieties.
The soils in Valle Central are diverse, with a mix of alluvial, gravel, loam, and sandy soils throughout the valley, which contribute to the rich array of wine styles produced here. The region is particularly renowned for its robust red wines, especially those made from the country’s flagship grape, Carmenere. These wines are known for their deep red color, fruity flavors, and smooth tannins.
Valle Central is also home to some of Chile’s most famous Cabernet Sauvignon wines, which are celebrated for their ripe fruit flavors and elegant structure.
