Lebanon wines

Bekaa Valley

The Bekaa Valley, a wine appellation of great historical significance, is nestled in the heart of Lebanon and is considered one of the oldest winemaking regions in the world.

The valley experienced a significant expansion in winemaking during the 1990s, growing from just 5 wineries to over 30. This growth reflects the valley’s longstanding connection to viticulture, which was revitalized after World War I when the French played a pivotal role in redeveloping the Lebanese wine industry.

The wines of Bekaa Valley carry the name of the region rather than the grape, and while there is no clear appellation system, there is one IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) which is the Bekaa Valley itself. The red wines are produced similarly to Bordeaux blends, and the whites are known for their floral and fragrant style.
