Santa Teresa 1796 Rum

A superb single estate Venezuelan rum crafted with care.

Santa Teresa 1796 Rum is a luxurious, aged rum that offers a complex and rich flavor profile. Upon first sip, you’ll notice a fruity aroma with subtle notes of wood. The taste is a harmonious blend of vanilla, cinnamon, and dark chocolate, complemented by hints of honey and a peppery finish. The rum’s unique aging process, which involves the artisanal Solera method, ensures a smooth and balanced experience. Each bottle contains a portion of the original 1796 cask, adding to its distinctive character

Honeyed single estate rum from Venezuela with elements of bitter chocolate, nuts and buttery biscuits. It is made, unusually for a rum, through the solera process: casks of different aged rums are stacked vertically, the oldest (aged around 35 years) at the bottom, and as the distiller draws rum from one cask they top it up with younger liquid from the blend.

Production Process: It’s made using the solera method, which is also used in Spanish sherry production. The rums in the blend age for 5 to 35 years in bourbon oak barrels, resulting in a smooth, dry, and balanced spirit perfect for sipping

Flavor Profile: This amber-red rum delivers a fruity aroma with notes of wood, vanilla, cinnamon, dark chocolate, hints of honey, and a peppery finish.

Social Impact:Its more than just a rum; it’s part of the Project Alcatraz social program that rehabilitates criminal gangs and reintegrate them into society through rugby.

It has garnered numerous awards and accolades over the years. Some of its notable achievements include:

  • Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
  • Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
  • Recognition from various spirit enthusiast publications and critics for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.

Santa Teresa 1796 Rum was created to celebrate the bicentennial of the Hacienda Santa Teresa in 1996. The Hacienda Santa Teresa, located in the Aragua Valley of Venezuela, was founded in 1796 by Count Martín Tovar Ponte. Over the years, it has withstood wars, revolutions, and invasions, becoming a symbol of resilience and excellence.

The rum itself is crafted using a unique triple aging process, where it is aged separately, then transferred to Solera casks, and finally to Solera vats. This meticulous process ensures a smooth and balanced flavor profile

Santa Teresa is the oldest family-owned rum company in Venezuela. The company was founded by Gustav Julius Vollmer, a young German merchant who arrived in Venezuela in 18262. He married Panchita Rivas, a woman of revolutionary blood, and their descendants have continued to run the company to this day.

The current president of Santa Teresa is Alberto C. Vollmer, who belongs to the fifth generation of the Vollmer family. The company is known not only for its exceptional rum’s but also for its social projects, such as Proyecto Alcatraz, which rehabilitates youth with behavior problems through rugby.

The Hacienda Santa Teresa is more than just a rum distillery; it is an agroindustrial, touristic, and sports complex. Visitors can explore “The Rum Route,” which includes the “Tovar House,” the “Rum Museum,” the “Private Cellar,” and the distillery itself.

Santa Teresa’s commitment to craftsmanship, social responsibility, and community engagement makes it a truly remarkable company with a rich heritage.
