Sauternes wines are primarily made from the Semillon grape variety, which constitutes about 80% of the vines in the local vineyards. Sauvignon Blanc also plays a significant role, accounting for much of the remaining vineyard area. A small handful of Sauternes wines also include Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris.
