Rasteau

Rasteau is a captivating wine appellation located in the southern Rhone wine region of France. It is recognized for both its fortified and unfortified wines, with the sweet fortified wines (Vin Doux Naturel, VDN) available in red, rose, or white varieties. The appellation primarily covers the commune of Rasteau but also includes some vineyards in Cairanne and Sablet.

In 2010, the appellation was also extended to include dry red wines, starting from the 2009 vintage. These reds are typically produced from 100% Grenache noir, showcasing the versatility and richness of the region’s viticulture

The terroir of Rasteau is diverse, contributing to the distinctive character of its wines. The soils range from pebbles, sand, and marl in the north to quaternary terraces with galets roulés in the south. This geological variety, along with the Mediterranean climate and protection from the Mistral wind, allows for the production of wines that balance elegance and power, offering a richness of flavor that is both unique and enchanting
